Sorry folks.  The ski trip rescheduled for this Sunday is off due to not having enough people signed up.  If you would be interested in trying for a third date, please let me know (kaapriester@yahoo.com), otherwise we will just try again next year.  Have a good day.

original:

We are currently planning a day long, 20 mile hike on October 22nd.

This hike will satisfy requirement #6 of the Hiking Merit badge provided the written work is also done for requirement #7.

6. Take a hike of 20 continuous miles in 1 day following a hike plan you have prepared. *

7. After each of the hikes (or during each hike if on a continuous “trek”) in requirements 5 and 6, write a short report of your

experience. Give dates and descriptions of routes covered, the weather, and interesting things you saw. Share this report with

your merit badge counselor.

The hike will be on the NCR Trail and we are planning on hiking from Glen Rock, PA to Glencoe, MD.

The idea is to make this a one way hike with the last 12 miles downhill.

All hikers will have to pack his own water and lunch.

There is a store where they can buy snacks, ice cream, etc. along the way.

The tentative times will be to start in Glen Rock at 9:00 AM and end in Glencoe at 5:00.

Logistically we would arrive at the Church at 8:00 and have the hikers driven to Glen Rock and dropped off.

There would then be vehicles waiting for the boys in Glencoe at 5:00 and will be driven immediately back to the church.

In order for this hike to take place we need:

Minimum of two adults, one trained , one with youth protection.

Drivers to go from the church to Glen Rock and from Glencoe back to the church.

There should be no cost to the boys or the Troop.

Please respond either via e-mail or at next week’s meeting.

Thank You,

David Victor

Date: August   19 -21

Cost: $ 102.00  includes raft, cave, camping & food.

Sign Up:  Sheet will be available for signing up in the scout room until August 2.

We will be white water rafting on the Lower Youghiogheny River, class 3 & 4 whitewater in a guide escorted raft (no guide in the boat) and spelunking at Laurel Caverns in the lower cave section- this is not a walk thru tour, this is a craw on your hands and knees, climb over big rocks, dark cave, real spelunking.  Much like climbing old rag except underground !  You will need something to wear while rafting- including closed toe shoes - you will get wet !

For the cave you will need long pants, long sleeve light jacket, boots that cover your ankles, and two sources of light (real flashlights not the small toy/keychain type).
